Forgive us their trespasses
Editorial Posted on 28/03/2012 by Hilary MartynThere aren’t many times that the electorate would call for a referendum or state that they would welcome one, but the Government could be pretty sure of maximum turn-out on election day if they had the guts to put the issue of removing State pensions from corrupt politicians to a national vote.

His left-of-field proposal raised a few eyebrows at the time, but there wouldn’t be many people scoffing at the idea this week, as the country played host to Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping and the notion of establishing proper Irish-Chinese relations really took hold.
