ChicHiResImage_1.jpg The biggest blessing and the biggest curse of his career, Nile Rodgers says, has been that he was never a star. Even today, when you mention his band, Chic, people may recognise their signature song ‘Le Freak’ or maybe even ‘Good Times’, but the sheer volume of hits that Rodgers and his song-writing partner, Bernard Edwards, penned is staggering. Diana Ross’ biggest hit, ‘I’m Coming Out’, David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’, Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’, and Sister Sledge’s ‘We are Family’ were all penned by Rodgers.

    Never known to shy away from a challenge, David Mach’s latest work ‘Precious Light’ was certainly that. A large-scale production interpreting the messages of the Bible, the striking visuals of the exhibition will prove to be among the most enduring of this year’s Galway Arts Festival and will be displayed to full effect at the Absolute Festival Gallery at Galway Shopping Centre.

    Galway Arts Festival’s reasons for staging the world premiere of Julian Gough’s latest play ‘The Great Goat Bubble’ aren’t hard to figure out. This comedy-drama is set in Ballinasloe and Gough himself is well known to the area, having studied at NUI Galway and thrilled music fans as frontman with Toasted Heretic.

    Terry Alderton is finally suiting himself. After experiencing a meteoric rise to fame at the turn of the century, he looked destined for a comfortable, yet mediocre career presenting game shows and doing inoffensive comedy routines; he even presented the UK National Lottery.

Circa don’t make a return this year, but French group Compagnie Ieto are sure to quench festivalgoers’ thirst for all things acrobatics.
