1 in 3 people would spend more on a green car

More than one in three Europeans would spend more to buy an environmentally friendly car, even though 71 per cent say they have reduced overall spending as a result of the economic recession, a Ford Motor Company-sponsored poll shows. The survey also showed 53 per cent consider climate change to be the world’s biggest issue and 57 per cent would prefer to lead a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.

  • Dacia doubles its dealer network

    The Dacia brand, launched in Ireland in July 2012, has already seen phenomenal growth in its short six months in Ireland. Its family crossover, the Duster, the most shockingly affordable vehicle in its class, has been test-driven by over 2,000 people in Ireland and sales have been hugely successful, with 500 orders since launch.

  • Roads safer but more to be done

    Provisional road casualty figures for 2012 published this week show that a total of 161 people tragically lost their lives on Irish roads in 2012. This is 25 fewer fatalities compared to 186 deaths last year and 51 fewer deaths compared to 2010 when 212 people lost their lives on the roads.

    Volkswagen was the best-selling car brand in Ireland in 2012, the first time the brand has achieved this in its history in Ireland. Volkswagen finished in first place ahead of Toyota in second place and Ford in third place.

    On 1 January 2003 the new home of Rolls-Royce officially opened for business and the first car was presented to its delighted customer at one minute past midnight. Described at the time as ‘the last great adventure in automotive history’, production of Phantom was initially one car per day, rising to three by the end of 2003.
