Abandoned Darlings launch

The Abandoned Darlings is a writing collective that emerged from NUI Galway’s MA in Writing 2011-2012. Their debut self-titled anthology, ‘Abandoned Darlings’, which has been guest edited by esteemed poet Moya Cannon, will be launched tonight, Wednesday 19 December in Busker Brownes. The collection is dedicated to Eithne Hannigan, an MA in Writing student who sadly passed away at the beginning of the 2011-2012 course, as well as the poet Tom Duddy, a faculty member at NUI Galway for many years.

  • New Year creative writing classes

    Two new creative writing classes will commence in January at Galway Technical Institute. Creative Writing for Beginners with Kevin Higgins takes place every Monday from 7pm-9.30pm for eight weeks, commencing on Monday, 14 January.

    Big Bag of Sticks return to perform a Christmas gig in Monroe’s Live Backstage Bar tonight, Wednesday 12 December. Big Bag of Sticks formed in 1990 when they met here in Galway. The band’s members are Irish, English and Scottish, with varying musical influences.

    Jemson Green were formed in 2007 by four friends in Dublin. They received ‘Single of the Fortnight’ from Hot Press Magazine for their first single ‘Sober’ in 2008 and the lads gained notable support slots, including a show with System of a Down’s Serj Tankien in Dublin's Ambassador.

  • Commemoration for Myles Joyce

    Myles Joyce, who was unjustly executed for his alleged part in the ‘Maamtrasna murders’ 130 years ago, will be remembered at a commemorative event this Saturday, 15 December. Mr Joyce was convicted in connection with the slaughter of a family on the Galway-Mayo border in 1882 and was hanged and buried at the then Galway Gaol on the site where Galway Cathedral now stands.
