Conroy strike seals Galway win

P1LEADMeehan_1.JPG Longford 3-7 Galway 3-11 Galway boss Alan Mulholland wants his men to have a serious crack at promotion after carving out victory at Pearse Park. Mulholland said that their second win of the campaign now gives them a chance to bid for promotion to the top flight. “It’s a vital victory. We have four away games and they are hard to win. If we didn’t get a win in this one then we would be looking behind us in the table but now we can look ahead towards promotion.

  • Thomas's favourites to claim maiden All-Ireland

    St Thomas's will hope to claim their first All-Ireland senior club hurling title on Sunday when they face Offaly champions Kilcormac-Killoughey at Croke Park (2pm). The loss of Daniel Currams to a broken arm is a huge blow to  Kilcormac-Killoughey and could well be the small encouragement that John Burke's side need to believe 100 percent that they can became Galway's fifth winner in the last eight years.

    Clare 0-18 Galway 1-13 Galway hurlers were unable to put a second win on the board in the NHL as Davy Fitzgerald's Clare proved too strong at Cusack Park. Joe Canning lashed a 20-metre free to the net in the third quarter as Galway closed within one point of their hosts, but it was the Banner men that finished the stronger to claim their first win of the campaign.

    Galway's U-21 Connacht football championship gets under way on Bank Holiday Monday next when they meet Sligo in the Connacht quarter-final at Tuam Stadium (4pm). The side which is co-managed by Alan Mulholland, Alan Flynn and Donal O Flatharta is likely to be back-boned by many of the 2010 minor team that lost agonisingly to Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final, by 5-8 to 3-15.
