The Labour Party's annual conference will return to Galway this year.

Following the success of last year's event, the conference will take place at the Bailey Allen Hall at NUI Galway from 13 to 15 April. More than 1,000 delegates are expected to attend and Galway Deputy Derek Nolan said he is looking forward to celebrating the party's "historic year".

"We have been proud to see Michael D Higgins, our candidate for the post of President of Ireland, succeed. We have added to our largest ever representation in the Dáil and Seanad. It is a particular pleasure for me that the conference will take place in Galway in the party's centenary year, having been founded in 1912," he explained.

"This forthcoming national conference will celebrate history and success. But, more importantly, it will debate crucial issues that dominate this country and try to chart a way forward."
