Northern Agriculture Minister to speak in Galway
One of Northern Ireland’s leading figures in reform of the agricultural sector will address a public meeting this Sunday 19 February in the Harbour Hotel in Galway.
Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Stormont Executive Michelle O’ Neill will give an overview of her experience thus far in the ministerial post and make the argument for increased north/south co-operation with regard to agricultural and rural issues.
She will also highlight the economic benefits such a change in approach could bring, particularly in respect of CAP and CFP reform.
Since taking up office, Minister O’Neill has initiated a £16 million Tackling Rural Poverty and Social Isolation Strategy in the six counties which will address issues such rural transport, fuel poverty, access to water mains, rural broadband and a range of other measures to reduce rural poverty.
The Minister will be joined at the meeting by Galway Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh and County Councillor Dermot Connolly, of Sinn Féin.
The meeting will take place in the John B Keane Suite, at the Harbour Hotel, Galway City at 8pm.
