Cunningham’s men looking for good start
Galway hurlers will be hoping to build on a positive start to the season when they take on Dublin on Sunday (2.30pm) in Pearse Stadium in their first division one national hurling league tie of the season.
Defeat to Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup final was a bit of a shock for the Tribesmen who impressed in wins over UCD and Laois, but the arrival of the league champions will give Anthony Cunningham and his management team a clearer picture of where their young guns are.
“We’ll expect Dublin to come with all guns blazing next weekend. They are one of the top teams in Ireland at the moment,” said Mattie Kenny.
“Behind Tipperary and Kilkenny they are really coming. We expect a really, really tough battle. It is what these young lads need at the moment to see how they’ll get on,” Kenny said.
A number of youngsters have caught the eye in the first four games of the year, with Bernard Burke, Conor Cooney, Niall Burke and Ger O’Halloran shining, while the old heads of Fergal Moore, Tony Óg Regan and Damien Hayes also look in decent form.
