Garden auction proves success
For the first time in Ireland, auctioneer and valuer Colm Farrell from Gort in Co. Galway held the successful auction of a property in its own front garden last Friday.
The property, No. 19 The Maples, Gort, Co. Galway, had been on the market by private treaty for months previously when the agent, with the co-operation of the vendors, decided to try something unique and different and offer the property by public auction and to hold the auction in the front garden and last Friday at 12noon was the time decided.
Rain forced Colm to move the proceedings inside to the kitchen, where the auction began with the bidding opening at €130,000 and moved briskly to €150,000. Colm placed the property on the market at this stage and with no further bids, the hammer came down at €150,000.
The successful buyers are a local couple, who were delighted with their purchase, look forward to their new home and announced that they are to get married next September. The vendors were happy with the result too, as they too can move to their new home.
