Tribesmen targeting Monaghan victory

Galway will hope to secure their position in division two by claiming victory over Monaghan at Inniskeen on Sunday (2.30pm).

If results in other games go Galway’s way they will be safe with a victory, but if Alan Mulholland’s side fail to pick up the victory and Kildare claim an expected home win over Westmeath, all hopes of promotion to the top flight will be gone.

A five-point loss to Westmeath in Cusack Park will have dented Monaghan’s confidence somewhat, but as Galway well know it is not an easy place to take points.

Pushing the division’s dominant side close in Tuam Stadium will give Mulholland some sense of satisfaction, but they will need to be on guard in Inniskeen.

Apart from Tyrone, Monaghan has the highest scoring record in division two and with a combined 4-35 from their last two matches alone, the Galway defence will need to be vigilant.

But with so much up for grabs in both directions, Galway will be keen to pick up the win that will set up a final day shootout for promotion with Kildare.
