Bottom of the division one table with no points, the worst scoring record and the most porous defence, Galway’s next opponents Waterford should be ripe for the picking.

However, just eight months have passed since the Déise men sliced and diced a woeful Galway side at its lowest ebb, and the memory is sure to linger with the 13 remaining panellists that featured in Semple Stadium.

But this is a very different Galway side that Anthony Cunningham and his management team has assembled and the confidence they have so far displayed suggests they should have enough in reserve to pick up the win on Sunday in Pearse Stadium (2.30pm).

Waterford conceded 31 points against Tipperary last weekend, leaving the likes of Niall Burke, Damien Hayes and James Regan licking their lips in anticipation, but the expected return of Waterford’s elixir John Mullane should counter-balance their defensive demise.

Galway will be hot favourites and should pick up the win, but Michael Ryan’s side will be gunning for their first points of the campaign.
