How about a statue of Lord Haw-Haw?

Dear Editor,

Since it appears that the city fathers (and mothers) are hell bent on replacing the statue of Padraic O Conaire at Eyre Square with people of doubtful past and tenuous connections with Galway, might I suggest a statue to William Joyce AKA Lord Haw-Haw, who spent his youth here and is buried in the New Cemetery. In this way, we might alienate the British tourists as well as the Americans.

Yours etc.

Dick Byrne,

Craughwell
