Quay Dental, located at Woodquay, is one of the West’s only dedicated sedation clinics for nervous or anxious patients.

A fear of dentistry is a common problem and nervous patients have benefited from the sedation service, which allows them to receive their dental treatment carried out under intravenous sedation.

“We understand that many people have a fear of the dentist and we appreciate this fear can deter them from visiting their dentist,” says Quay Dental Principle Dentist Lisa Creaven.

“At Quay Dental’s Sedation Clinic, treatment can be carried out in one sitting in a relaxed environment for the patient. Since launching our Sedation Clinic last year, we are delighted to have helped almost 75 nervous patients with their dental procedure.”

IV Sedation is a procedure whereby a sedative drug is administered intravenously prior to having dental treatment. The sedative effects of the drug last for approximately two hours, allowing Dr Creaven to complete any treatment needed without any fear or apprehension.

This type of sedation provides a “profound reduction” in anxiety, eliminates most if not all memory of the procedure and is a very safe and effective method of sedation that is a less costly alternative to general anaesthesia. However, you will require an escort to accompany you for several hours after your treatment.

Anyone in good health is a suitable candidate for IV Sedation. The procedure will allow even the most nervous patients to accomplish full dental health in as little as one appointment.
