Appeal for information on man found in Bearna
Gardaí are appealing for information to aid their attempts in identifying a man whose body was discovered in Bearna yesterday.
The remains of the man, who is believed to be in his mid-30s, were discovered by a passer-by close to the pier in Bearna at 9.30am on Tuesday morning.
Superintendent Noel Kelly confirmed to the Galway Independent that the man had no identification on his person when discovered and efforts are now underway to establish his identity and contact his family.
He is described as being 6ft tall with brown shoulder-length hair and blue eyes and was wearing black combat-style jeans with black-laced shoes, a grey shirt, blue t-shirt and a reversible hooded blue/grey Rockport jacket.
“What is unique about it is he was wearing a bracelet that was about an inch and a half wide with rainbow colours on his right wrist. It’s my belief that he wouldn’t have been in the water long, I’d say possibly 24 hours as a maximum,” said Supt Kelly.
A forensic team carried out an investigation at the scene yesterday morning before the remains were taken to University Hospital Galway for a post mortem examination. However, gardaí have confirmed that they are not treating the death as suspicious.
